AWOLNATION, the alternative rock band from Los Angeles, energized the stage of The Fillmore on July 2 as part of the “Run” tour in support of their latest album by the same name. Lead singer Aaron Bruno was moving around the stage non-stop; jumping, dancing, and interacting with the crowd the whole show. He passed all of his energy on to the fans, encouraging them to “dance however you want with us.” During the song “Kookseverwhere!!!,” he jumped from the stage and crowd surfed, after playing “Knights of Shame,” he said “Let’s see if we can get everyone jumping, everyone from the front to the balcony!”, and during “Kill Your Heroes,” he was high-fiving and grabbing hands with the crowd. The crowd responded throughout the night by dancing, singing, waving their hands in the air, and jumping around. Before playing “All I Need,” Bruno told everyone in the crowd to put their arm around the person next to them, even if they didn’t know each other, and it seemed like nearly everyone did.

Along with the songs I already mentioned, AWOLNATION also played crowd favorites like “Not Your Fault,” “Burn it Down” to end the regular set, “I am” to open the encore, and “Sail” to close the night. During the encore, Bruno instructed the crowd to wave their lighters or cell phones in the air and the whole room looked with it was filled with fireflies. After the show, the band jumped from the stage and handed out their setlists and shook hands with fans. It was a really fun show to be at. I doubt anyone went home feeling anything but happy.
