The day after Valentine’s Day was a fitting time for former teen heartthrob, Rick Springfield, to play the Sound Board in the Motor City Casino. Devoted fans packed the venue to experience the barrage of power pop, but Rick was here to do more than just melt hearts. This show was a charity event for the 4th annual “Rock for Jobs” supporting Goodwill’s job placement programs in Metro Detroit. Before the show he toured a new Goodwill store and warehouse.
The set list included a mix of old hits and new tracks from his latest album “Songs for the End of the World” from 2012. Highlights included “Love is Alright Tonight,” “Human Touch,” “Don’t Talk to Strangers,” and the rarely heard “Will I?” Another great moment was Rick’s reworking of Katy Perry’s hit song “Roar.”
Rick has a new album in the works, a new movie coming out soon, a solo tour, and a recurring role in the next season of HBO’s “True Detective,” but his heart is on the stage performing for his fans. From the moment he took the stage he was smiling and full of a huge amount of energy. Rick talks a lot in between songs, connecting with the crowd through stories and humor. His charming personality is impossible to contain, making it completely obvious why he was such a big hit in the 80’s and why his fans still love him today.
