The Fillmore Detroit saw quite the variety on Wednesday night with the mid-tour stop of Taking Back Sunday, letlive., and the Menzingers: Acoustic? Check. Punk rock? Check. Post-hardcore? Check. Good ol’ alternative rock? Check. This unique lineup had something for everyone. Headliners Taking Back Sunday offered a VIP option on this tour, giving fans the opportunity to hear acoustic performances from Adam Lazzara and John Nolan as well as get photos with the band before the show began.
The first opener, the Menzingers from Scranton, PA, kicked things off with a classic punk rock sound, playing a variety of tracks including a few from their most recent album “Rented World”. The post-hardcore men of letlive. brought something different to the table next. Frontman Jason Butler had captivating energy, climbing atop stacks of speakers and at one point making his way out into the main floor area as far as his mic cable would let him before diving into the crowd during the last song of the set.
Taking Back Sunday took the stage around 9 p.m., giving their fans a wide variety of hits from the classic “Tell All Your Friends” to their most recent “Happiness Is…” and everything in between. A new thing added for this tour was video screens, which give their performance an extra energetic element. Whether you’ve been a fan since their start, or if you jumped on board more recently, their solid set confirmed that, yet again, Taking Back Sunday has a little bit of something for everybody.
